ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowedFederal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment of Women at Work place Yasmeen Abbasey to hire a counsel in a suo-moto case.
It may be mentioned that the chief justice onMay 11 took a suo moto notice for issuing notice to the LahoreHigh Court (LHC) senior judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah by the federal ombudsperson for protection against harassment of women at work place.
The three-member bench of the apex court was headed by JusticeAmir Hani Muslim heard the case. During the course of proceedings, Yasmin appeared before the bench and stated that the LHC was continuously intervening in the affairs of the ombudsperson’s office by issuing stay orders against its order.
“According to law, no court had the authority to intervene in the affairs of ombudsperson office,” she said.Justice Amir Hani asked that whether the ombudsperson’s decision could not be challenged in the Supreme Court or high courts.
On which Yasmin Abbasey replied that it could only be challenged before the president. Yasmin Abbasey requested for time for hiring a counsel. The case was adjourned till second week of June.
